Living in the Image (online via Zoom with Rabbi Eric Gurvis)

One of the most profound teachings of Jewish tradition comes from the opening chapter of our Torah, the notion that each person is created B’tzelem Elohim – “in the image of God.” In this series we will explore how this concept evolved over the course of the development of Jewish tradition. How did the concept expand, and what does it mean for us, in our lives, to live mindful that we are created b’tzelem Elohim? How does and should this concept impact our lives and relationships?

We will explore texts (in translation) from the Bible to the rabbis, to medieval philosophy (such as Maimonides), the Mussar and Hasidic traditions, as well as contemporary Jewish thought.
