“Forgotten Voices: An Evening of Women’s Songs and Stories” blends dramatic storytelling with modern takes on ancient Ladino music.

Folding radio-drama storytelling and fascinating history into a global concert brimming with musicality and heart, Sofia Tosello, Guy Mendilow and Chris Baum conjure Sephardi women’s voices lost to war. Traverse picturesque Mediterranean port towns and ruined Ottoman villages, from Salónica to Sarajevo, guided by an “international tour-de-force” (Bethlehem Morning Call). In an intimate evening, part TED talk, part performance, the overlooked women’s history tantalizes with timely questions touching on struggles and tensions today.

Hebrew Union College says the show, “Explodes with artistry, refinement, and excitement.” The Cambridge Chronicle describes this original performance as “vibrant musical storytelling awash with warm harmonies, captivating rhythms and rollicking, fast-paced vocal improvisations.”

This is an exclusive opportunity to see the Guy Mendilow Ensemble perform in an intimate venue. Following the performance, Rabbi Josh Breindel will host a conversation with the artists and audience on a range of topics evoked by the performance. Forgotten Voices is the ensemble’s newest show. Check out this video of an earlier show, Forgotten Kingdom, here.
