New Gallery Concert Series presents “Who We Are, Who We Need to Be,” featuring the world premiere of a new Yiddish song-cycle by Derek David (Leybl Duvid). The work brings 20th-century Yiddish poetry by Jacob Glatstein, Celia Dropkin, and Rokhl Korn to life through music for voice and piano. The program also includes music by Julie Arlene Spencer and additional world premieres by Derek David and Bruno C. Faria.

The concert features performances by Rose Hegele (voice) and pianists Sarah Bob (New Gallery Artistic Director), Elias Dagher, and Marceline Merrill, with Steph Davis on marimba, as well as visual art by Brooke Merrill. Exploring themes of identity, connection, and growth, the program invites audiences to reflect on what it means to align our authentic selves with how we show up in the world.
