Ruth R. Wisse, professor emerita of Yiddish literature at Harvard University and widely published columnist, grew up in the shadow of genocide, but in tandem with the birth of Israel, which remained her lodestar. In her new memoir, she chronicles her life that began on the run with her family’s escape from the Nazis at the age of 4, and the transformation of their new home in Montreal into a literary and intellectual haven for Jewish poets, novelists and thinkers. Wisse takes us with her on the path of a trail-blazing, female political refugee who fought to gain equality for Jewish literature and Jewish women in the academy.
In conversation with Andrea Levin, executive director and president of CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis).
