What is the relation between intellectual freedom and belonging to a particular tradition – i.e., between philosophy and Judaism? Are they completely distinct? Can they be reconciled? Through a consideration of two short texts by Leo Strauss–“Jerusalem and Athens” and “Why We Remain Jews” -Jeffrey Bernstein explores the way in which the 20th century philosopher illustrates the relation between them.  The class begins April 24 and concludes on May 1, 11:00 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein, an associate professor of philosophy at the College of the Holy Cross. His book, “Leo Strauss on the Borders of Judaism, Philosophy, and History,” was published in June, 2015. We welcome all to join us.
