Join Marlee Matlin for a screening and conversation about a Jewish film that inspired her—Dirty Dancing! Marlee Matlin is an Academy Award winning actress (Children of a Lesser God, 1986) who has starred in film and TV across genres, from series like The L Word and The West Wing to classic films like The Player. Marlee works with Deaf and hard of hearing children throughout the world and, in 1994, was appointed to the Corporation for National Service by President Clinton.

Marlee is a national celebrity spokesperson for The American Red Cross and was instrumental in getting legislation passed in Congress in support of Closed Captioning. She has written three novels for children as well as a New York Times Best Selling autobiography, I’ll Scream Later. She is currently filming Quanitco for ABC/Disney.

30 years after its release, Dirty Dancing takes you back to those endless summer nights with unforgettable music, dancing, and romance. Baby (Jennifer Grey) is reluctant to go on one last summer family vacation to the Catskills resort before joining the Peace Corps. But when she meets the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), she gets a glimpse into a tempting world behind the resort’s shiny exterior. She jumps in with both feet as Johnny’s new dance partner – and love interest. When Baby’s father discovers the romance and forbids her from seeing Johnny, she’s determined to show him her unwavering support and help him perform the show-stopping and unforgettable last dance of the summer.

The film will be captioned and there will be ASL interpretation of all discussions.

With appreciation to The Ruderman Family Foundation for their support of this event.
