Created in response to the rise in hate crimes, “Unveiled,” featuring playwright and performer Rohina Malik, is a powerful work about five women from different ethnic backgrounds whose stories are bound by the hijab, the traditional headscarf worn by Muslim women as a symbol of modesty, deep devotion and sincere piety. It also provokes hostility and abuse from those blinded by Islamophobia.

Malik tells each story, accompanied by a musician playing the oud, which subtly underscores and enhances Malik’s monologues. Light snacks will be served after the performance.

This event is made possible through a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council and is supported by Congregation Or Atid, the Islamic Center of Boston, Temple Shir Tikva and Temple Israel of Natick.
