Jewish Family Service of Metrowest invites your family to visit with a frail, lonely elder and share the joy of the holidays through the new Kesher-Y.O.U (Young and Old United) program.
This program is for families with young children who are interested in connecting with elders in the Metrowest area during Jewish holidays. Four sessions are planned between December 2017 and April 2018 and families may choose to participate in one or all sessions.
Each session will consist of:
- A 45-minute holiday-themed orientation, including an activity for children and information for parents about the visit. Families will also prepare a gift bag for the elder.
- After the orientation, families will drive to their assigned elder’s home, deliver the gift bag and celebrate together the traditions of the holiday. Visits are expected to last at least 30 minutes.
This program helps young children learn the importance of tzedakah—the act of charitable giving, gemilut hasadim—acts of kindness—and mitzvah—the Jewish commandment to do good.
The first session, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17, will celebrate Chanukah.
Other sessions are tentatively scheduled as follows:
- Jan. 28, 2018: Tu B’Shevat
- Feb. 25, 2018: Purim
- Mar. 25, 2018: Passover
