Shivek Bible Lecture

April 17, 2016 Brookline $0.00

“Redeeming the King? The Role of Women in the Making of the Messianic Dynasty” will be the subject of this year’s Shivek Bible Lecture. Guest speaker will be Professor Rachel Adelman, PhD, Assistant Professor in Bible at Hebrew College.

Following breakfast, she will compare the story of Judah and Tamar in Genesis with that of David and Bathsheba in the books of Samuel and Kings. Professor Adelman holds a Master of Arts in Jewish Studies from Matan/Baltimore Hebrew University in Jerusalem; her doctorate is in Hebrew Literature, with a specialty in midrash.

The Shivek Bible Lecture has been sponsored for more than thirty years by Herbert Shivek, a past Temple Emeth president, and Louise Shivek, in memory of their parents, Jennie and Bernard Shivek and Anna and Theodore Shaps.
