What can a language tell us about the lives, humor, and history of the people who speak it?

Join Larry Gillick for an exploration of a language and culture that has connected generations of Jewish communities around the world.

Drawing on his own journey into Yiddish language and literature, Larry will trace the history of Yiddish through Europe, the Soviet Union, and America. Along the way, we’ll discover resources at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, explore Yiddish pronunciation, and encounter classic sayings that reveal the wit, wisdom, and cultural traditions carried by the language.

Whether you’re a lifelong Yiddish enthusiast, remember hearing the language growing up, or are simply curious to learn more, all are welcome.

No knowledge of Yiddish is necessary.

Part of “Yiddish: A Living Legacy,” Temple Ohabei Shalom’s year-long celebration of Yiddish language, literature, history, humor, and culture.
