From New Year’s Eve to NASA shuttle launches, we live in a culture of counting down to momentous occasions. In this period of the Counting of the Omer*, Judaism becomes a tradition of counting UP! (What’s the Omer? See below!)

So: Are you a counter-upper or a counter-downer? What’s the difference and does it even matter?!

Join us for a 90-minute workshop to explore tools, texts and community to help us dig deep. Through writing, conversation and Jewish wisdom, we will explore the impact of counting in Jewish tradition and in our own lives.

*On the second day of Passover, Jews around the world begin “Counting of the Omer,” the 49-day period between Passover and the holiday of Shavuot. Omer means “sheaf” and in ancient days, the Omer period marked the beginning of the barley harvest when Jews would bring the first sheaves of their harvest to the ancient Temple in Jerusalem.

For moderns, we have turned this ancient practice into a spiritual journey, reflecting each day on our journey from slavery to freedom to receiving the Torah.
