His research focuses on democratization and authoritarianism, political parties and weak and informal institutions, mostly in Latin America. He is co-author (with Daniel Ziblatt) of “How Democracies Die” (Crown, 2018) and was featured in The New York Times on Oct. 25, 2020.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. with an abridged Qabbalat Shabbat service, followed by Levitsky’s lecture on “The State of American Democracy on the Eve of the 2020 Election” and a moderated Q&A.
