This event has been postponed to a date TBA.

Featuring a special evening of tango music and original works with violinist Ilana Zaks and guitarist Barbara Matthews, who together comprise the dynamic Duo Fuego.

The program begins with Astor Piazzolla’s “Histoire du Tango,” featuring dancers Ilya Vidrin and Jessi Stegall, who will showcase the physical history of the tango dance style.

A world premiere of Tiyani Wang’s violin and electric guitar piece “dui’er (lowercase)” will follow—the work’s title is the pinyin (the Romanization of the Chinese characters based on their pronunciation) of the Chinese word 对儿, which translates to “a pair; double.”

The evening will conclude with composer Austin Smith’s piece for electric violin and electric guitar featuring Ilya Vidrin and Jessi Stegall dancing in a modern style.

The latter two works were commissioned exclusively by Duo Fuego for this performance.
