April 3, 2017 Newton $10.00 0
Raise the Roof, directed by Yari and Cary Wolinsky

Temple Shalom hosts the award-winning documentary movie “Raise the Roof,” as part of the Newton Festival of the Arts. The film chronicles the efforts of more than 300 people from 16 countries to build a replica of an ornate cupola ceiling of the Gwozdziec synagogue in Poland. All the 18th century wooden synagogues were destroyed by the Nazis. To learn more about the film, watch the trailer.

Rick and Laura Brown, the Mass College of Art professors who organized this decade-long undertaking, and a college student, who participated in the project, will speak after the film. This event, co-sponsored with The National Center for Jewish Film, will end with a reception.
