The Female Ruse: Women’s Deception and Divine Sanction in the Hebrew Bible

Next Event: January 31, 2018 Wayland Free

Dr. Rachel Adelman, Torah scholar, teacher and poet, will lead the discussion using her latest book as our guide for this 10-week course. From Eve to Esther, the Hebrew Bible is replete with gendered tales of trickery. A lie is uttered, a mask donned, a seduction staged, while redemption is propelled forward, guided by the divine hand. Over the course of nine chapters, Ms. Adelman will discuss the many different narratives of deception where God is in cahoots with these feminine agents in advancing the providential plan.

This is an inaugural year for the Metrowest Jewish Women’s Study Group. Our goal is to offer engaging educational opportunities to women of all ages and to build Jewish connectedness through shared learning experiences.

Please join us! No fee for classes. Register by Dec. 11 and get discounted book rate ($30). Participants can drop in and out throughout the session and not have to register (and get the book on their own or not), but registering is helpful.

This program is supported by the Metrowest Jewish Community Fund of Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
