The Time for Singing Has Come

May 29, 2014 Newton $15.00

Koleinu invites you to an evening of joyous music with Temple Emanuel’s own Cantor Elias Rosemberg joining as the featured soloist.

The chorus will sing the contemporary works Shirim L’Yom Tov (Four Festive Songs) by Shulamit Ran and Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, each set composed to mark personal moments of celebration and love. Cantor Rosemberg’s rich baritone will be featured in a set of French 19th-century pieces by Giacomo Meyerbeer and Samuel Naumbourg. These settings of liturgical texts unapologetically display that period’s fascination with the drama the newly-born Paris Grand Opera. The program will also include songs of Naomi Shemer, Chava Alberstein, and others.
