Tikkun Leyl Shavuot at Temple Reyim

May 23, 2015 Newton 0

Tikkun Leyl Shavuot, Saturday evening on May 23 at Temple Reyim, 1860 Washington St. in Newton, will feature Jewish Text and Thought on the Spiritual Meaning of Giving and Receiving.

The first program begins at 7 pm for school age children and their parents with a family program where they will study together about Jewish Environmentalism. Afterwards, there will be an ice cream tasting, where everyone can vote for their favorite.

At 8:30 pm, we will begin an evening of study on the mitzvah of Tzedakah. Rabbinic intern Elie Lehmann will lead us in a deliberation of “Jewish Thought and Theology on Giving and Receiving”. This will be followed by a Festival Ma’ariv Service with Kiddush at 9:45 pm.

At 10:00 pm there will be delectable dairy desserts featuring banana splits and other ice cream confections.

10:30 pm will feature Rabbi Daniel Berman, who will guide us through a teaching on “Jewish Law and Ethics on Tzedakah”. He will discuss whether there is a Jewish obligation to give. Is Tzedakah a personal decision or should one’s community decide how and what an individual should give? What does Jewish law teach us about fund raising?

From 12 midnight till 2 am there will be Late Night Learning with Rabbi Berman and Elie Lehmann on “Introduction to Kabbalah: What Does Jewish Mysticism Teach Us About The Ability of the Human Heart To Receive?”
