Join us for a conversation about racial and religious intersections among Asian Americans, against whom there has been a surge in hate crimes, with Rabbi Mira Rivera and professors Phil Thai, Matt Lee and Lily Song.

Rabbi Mira Rivera is the first Filipina American to receive rabbinical ordination and an M.A. in Jewish studies from The Jewish Theological Seminary. She serves as associate rabbi and director of pastoral care at Romemu in New York City, and as rabbinic mentor at Ammud: The Jews of Color Torah Academy. She is a board-certified chaplain with Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains. She received a BFA in film and television from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Rabbi Rivera danced for the Martha Graham Dance Company and Ensemble under artistic director Yuriko Kikuchi and taught dance to New York City public school children with National Dance Institute.

Professor Phil Thai is associate professor of history and Asian studies and director of Asian studies at Northeastern University.

Professor Matt Lee is teaching professor of human services at Northeastern University.

Professor Lily Song is assistant professor of race, social justice and the built environment at Northeastern University.

This lecture is the second in the 2021-2022 Morton E. Ruderman Memorial Lecture Series, in collaboration with the Fall 2021 Open Classroom at Northeastern University, “Repairing a Divided America.”
