“The Last Kings of Shanghai: The Rival Jewish Dynasties that Shaped Modern China” with Jonathan Kaufman. The extraordinary story of the Kadoorie and Sassoon families who stood astride China’s business, politics and economy for 175 years.

Jonathan Kaufman, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, editor, and author, joined Northeastern University in 2015 as Professor and Director in the School of Journalism. He has held senior positions at Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal and The Boston Globe.  Author of “The Last Kings of Shanghai,” he has also authored “A Hole in the Heart of the World: Being Jewish in Eastern Europe” and “Broken Alliance: The Turbulent Times Between Blacks and Jews in America,” which won the National Jewish Book Award. He received his BA in English from Yale University and an MA in Regional Studies–East Asia from Harvard University.

This event is part of the Morton E. Ruderman Memorial Lecture Series on The Colors, Cultures, and Flavors of the Jews at Northeastern University.
