Starting Sunday, Nov. 5, we will enter the tractate of Bava Kamma (“The First Gate”), which is the first tractate in Seder Nezikin (“Order of Damages,” that addresses issues of civil law). This tractate is the first section of a three-section assemblage of Talmudic material that was originally a single segment.

Bava Kamma focuses on the laws of torts: the first six chapters mostly address damages inflicted by one’s property, while the last four chapters discuss damages inflicted by people, such as theft and injury (from Sefaria.org).
