Bulgaria’s recent submission to the Academy Awards is a visually stunning tale of first love and friendship set in the summer of 1943. When 17 year-old Moni meets his pretty, fun-loving cousin, Shelli, he is smitten. Unfortunately, so is his more-worldly best friend Giorgio. Meanwhile the effects of Nazi Germany are devastating Shelli’s hometown of Kavala, Greece and Bulgarians are being pressured to give up their nation’s Jews to the Germans. While the three teenagers pursue? the classic love triangle, the world around them sinks into chaos and despair. In Bulgarian, German, and Ladino with subtitles.
