Dr. Karen Hetzel to Speak on the Stigma of Mental Illness

During Friday evening Shabbat services, Dr. Hetzel, Ph.D., an associate professor of nursing and undergraduate program director at Rhode Island College, will speak about how mental illness is a brain disease and how it impacts daily life. Dr. Hetzel has also done extensive research on the subject of domestic violence.

Dr. Hetzel returns on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to noon to speak on “The Stigma Surrounding Mental Illness.” She has presented and is continuing to present her sabbatical work on this topic around the country. Dr. Hetzel will speak about the stigma of mental illness and ways to challenge it and decrease it.
