B’nai Tikvah invites the community to the dedication of its Holocaust Memorial Courtyard.

Speakers will be Dr. Lori Lefkovitz, Ruderman Professor of Jewish Studies at Northeastern University, speaking on “The Stories Continue: The Holocaust Legacy for Next Generations,” and Dr. David Lustbader, B’nai Tikvah member and son of Holocaust survivors. His family established the Lustbader/Babcock Library at the temple as a tribute to those who endured the Holocaust and those who chose not to close their eyes to the reality.

The centerpiece of the courtyard is a large mosaic mural featuring a view of Europe during the time of the Holocaust and the depiction of the entrapment of the Jewish people with an eye to the future. There is also a 5,000-pound granite monument identifying six concentration camps crowned by an everlasting light.

The mural was conceived to keep the memories of the 6 million Jews lost in the Holocaust fresh in our minds. Natalie Weinberg, B’nai Tikvah president, stated: “We must learn from the past and teach our children that hatred and prejudice have consequences.”
