Arie and Adam Perelman in "The Lost Brothers" by Haim Etgar (Promotional still)

Join us for a screening of the documentary film “The Lost Brothers,” plus an exhibition of graphic art, photographs, and wood inlay work.

Artworks by Alexander Gassel, Andrey Gagarin, and Mikhail Faktorovich.

Alexander Gassel is a Russian-American artist and designer whose work blends avant-garde approaches with traditional Russian iconography. By combining ancient symbols with contemporary subjects, he creates surrealist pieces that reflect both his cultural heritage and his life in America. Gassel employs traditional icon-painting techniques, working with egg-yolk tempera and handmade pigments ground from natural stones and minerals such as malachite, cinnabar, and lapis. His paintings often incorporate gold or silver leaf, uniting historical methods with a contemporary visual language.

Andrey Gagarin is a psychiatrist with decades of experience and no formal training in photography, yet he has been making photographs since the age of 12. His work grows from careful observation and attention rather than instruction, shaped by patience, listening, and sustained looking. One of his photographs, taken at Birkenau using infrared optics, reflects his interest in revealing what ordinary sight cannot see. Rather than documenting a place, the image explores memory, presence, and absence, treating photography—like psychiatry—as an act of witnessing and sustained attention.

Michael Farro (Mikhail Faktorovich) is a marquetry artist whose work focuses on narrative wood veneer panels. His practice explores themes of memory, history, and human experience through intricate, handcrafted compositions. Born in Bobruisk, Belarus, Farro studied in Moscow before earning a Ph.D. in economics. Alongside a career in computer programming and teaching computer science at Boston University, he has pursued marquetry as a parallel artistic practice and now lives in Massachusetts with his wife.
