Yom Kippur: you fast, pray and listen to the piercing cry of the shofar. Or maybe you don’t, and you’re looking for a different way to experience the high holidays. Whoever you are, join guest teachers at Mayyim Hayyim for workshops in Jewish text, movement and song. Spend the afternoon putting your personal intentions for self-renewal and social change first, with good friends and powerful learning.
Join us for some group learning, followed by three workshops you can choose from.
1) Kol Nidre as a Practice of Liberation with Bronwen Mullin
TEXT & THEATER: Using embodied theater exercises (Theatre of the Oppressed), this workshop will explore the power of our words and Jewish tradition’s take on making and annulling vows.
2) Songs to Unclutter the Soul with Mónica Gomery
NIGGUNIM: During the high holidays we engage in an accounting of our souls. The spiritual practice of singing niggunim, melodies without words, offers us a way to clear out the clutter within.
3) Rise Up and Voice Your Plea with Eva Heinstein
YOGA: In this workshop we will use Shira Yoga – the integration of yoga and the chanting of piyutim, Hebrew devotional poems – to experience our mystical tradition through the body.
