“Irma G: A Century of Hats and Spirit” puts a beautiful elderly woman in the spotlight, and these images bring up themes of legacy, storytelling, and visibility, as well as the entire package of who a 96-year-old woman can be. This exhibit is a powerful meditation on intergenerational relationships and the beauty of aging.
This was a shared project with photographer Leann Shamash and her mother during the final year of her life, where she photographed her in a century’s worth of hats.
