Join us for “Refugees of World War II: Reclaiming the Music of Polish Composers,” a moving concert exploring the lives and music of Polish composers whose careers were profoundly impacted by the Nazi regime and the Holocaust. Presented in conjunction with the remembrance of Kristallnacht, the program will feature the works of Szymon Laks, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and Roman Ryterband—composers whose music and artistic voices endured despite displacement, persecution, and the lasting trauma of war. Through their remarkable stories and powerful music, this program reclaims an important chapter of cultural history while reflecting on the enduring importance of standing against antisemitism and hate.
About our partners:
This program is presented by Holocaust Music Lost & Found (HMLF) and the Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association (PCMA), with support from the Polish Cultural Institute New York and the Malopolska Voivodeship. HMLF is dedicated to the discovery, study, and performance of works by composers whose lives and careers were disrupted or destroyed during the Holocaust, while PCMA is committed to bringing exceptional Polish musicians and repertoire to audiences around the world. Together, the organizations are working to ensure that the music and stories of these composers continue to be heard and remembered.
About the musicians:
The program will be performed by members of the Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association, including award-winning pianist and PCMA co-founder and president Grzegorz Mania, violinist Marta Gidazewska, clarinetist Piotr Lato, and mezzo-soprano Hanna Hipp. Through their performances, these accomplished musicians will bring new life to works that tell a powerful story of artistic resilience, loss, survival, and remembrance.
The project was implemented with the financial support of the Małopolska Voivodeship and made possible at Temple Israel of Boston by the generous support of the Wyner Fund.
