In this interactive course, we will read and discuss Jewish texts and commentary on the theme of light. We will start with “Let there be light” from the first chapter of Genesis, and proceed through short but deep biblical, Talmudic, medieval and modern texts. We will consider what meaning these texts may have for us, no matter where we fall in the complex spectrum from believer to atheist. No previous experience with Hebrew or texts is required. It is offered in conjunction with the Hebrew College/Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) Learning Circle program.
