Celebrate Shavuot, the Jewish “dairy” holiday, with a cheese-making workshop from your house! Cook alongside us as you learn to make a crumbly farmers cheese and paneer (pressed fresh cheese) from scratch.

We will also discuss the many explanations for why cheese is considered to be the food of Shavuot.

Please note that this is a young adult event designed for people in their 20s and 30s.

Zoom link provided after registration.

What you will need to cook with us (you are welcome to just watch too!):

1/2 gallon whole milk only
Acid (like fresh lime juice, fresh lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, white vinegar or buttermilk)
Mesh strainer
Cheesecloth (optional)
Candy or meat thermometer (optional)

Sarah Wasser’s interest in cooking goes back to childhood, but her desire to make all the ingredients, and not just the dish, began with a stint as a summer camp farmer. Wasser is the director of community engagement for Honeymoon Israel in Boston. She is the former operations manager at Trybal Gatherings, where she taught workshops on pickling, cheese-making, kombucha brewing and liquor infusions at their Jewish summer camps for adults. She continues her quest toward “apartment homesteading” in Cambridge, where she can be found pickling, infusing and growing all different things.
