In this class from Open Circle Jewish Learning, explore how Jewish writers use the written word to write and re-write their own stories. Taught by bestselling author Tova Mirvis.

“My motivation, in writing, is to connect,” says the memoirist Dani Shapiro. “To say: this is me, my truth, my world. This is what I understand, this is my lens, this is how I see.”

In this class we will explore ways various contemporary Jewish writers have constructed their personal narratives, in memoir and in essays. What are the stories they tell and the questions with which they grapple? Using their work as a springboard, we will explore how each of us can begin to understand and write our own Jewish stories.

This class meets Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., on the following dates: April 26; May 3, 10, 17, 24; June 7
