Shabbat Tzedek: Confronting Implicit Bias

Top Pick January 17, 2020 Boston Free
Yavilah Real (2)

“This isn’t a program or an initiative. Our goal is a culture shift, an awareness that summons behavior change. Let us envision the kind of community we can be. To alter the landscape of implicit bias is a practice just as compassion, matter-ness, justice, learning and nurturing the spirit are. They are all tied together as part of what it means to be connected to and responsible for one another within the Temple Israel orbit and beyond. It is embedded in our mission and values and intrinsic to Judaism.”
—Rabbi Elaine Zecher

Join us for an inspirational Shabbat Tzedek, a Sabbath of Justice, to celebrate the values of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with honored guest Yavilah McCoy, CEO and executive director of Dimensions Educational Consulting, who will speak about shifting our mindset toward diversity, equity and inclusion. This service is free, open to people of all faiths and will be live-streamed.

All families are welcome to join us before the service at 5 p.m. for a pizza dinner. We will offer babysitting for ages 6 months to 3 years in Room 105 starting at 5:30 p.m. During the service, we will have children’s programming for ages 4 years old to first grade, as well as second grade and older. Please contact Roberta Bergstein at rbergstein@tisrael.org for more information.
