The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Salem State University is pleased to invite you to a screening of the film, “The Heart of Nuba.” This gripping film documents the heroic work of Dr. Tom Catena for the people of the Nuba Mountains who are facing genocidal attacks ordered by Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about the film, genocide prevention and the failure of the international community to respond to the actions of dictators such as Omar Al-Bashir.
In choosing this film, the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies is seeking to raise awareness of ongoing genocides, the need to enforce human rights laws and our responsibility to create institutions to prevent future mass atrocities.

Please visit The Heart of Nuba to register for FREE tickets!

*The screening is part of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies Sonia Schreiber Weitz Series.

Additional information:
Dr. Tom Catena is the only doctor for the one million people who live in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, where indicted war criminal President Omar al-Bashir is killing his own people. Dr. Tom, as he is known at the hospital, is the surgeon, ob-gyn and pediatrician serving Muslims, Christians, Animists and Africans who practice traditional beliefs and who have lived harmoniously for centuries. Today they struggle even to survive.
