Over her three-and-a-half years in Spain, Susan Solomont finds her place in the Madrid Jewish community and learns the role of religion in Spain. When her husband was appointed by President Barack Obama to be U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Solomont uprooted herself.

She discovers the days known as La Convivencia (The Coexistence), when Jews, Muslims and Christians coexisted in harmony, and explores the dark history of the Inquisition to the modern-day pluralistic country that is Spain. Her book, “Lost and Found in Spain: Tales of An Ambassador’s Wife,” is an insider’s account of everyday life in an American embassy that reminds us we are all looking for our place in the world, whether on the international stage or in our own hearts.

A complimentary guided tour of the Vilna and its history will run approximately 45 minutes before the start of the program.

Susan Lewis Solomont has more than 30 years of experience providing strategic philanthropic counsel to private foundations. She was named International Woman of the Year by FEDEPE, the leading organization for Spanish women executives and directors. “Lost and Found in Spain: Tales of an Ambassador’s Wife” is her first book.
