Join us for another wonderful Israeli movie of the DOC.il series! “The Queen Has No Crown” is an award-winning documentary (watch the trailer here: https://goo.gl/aHxOcO) by Tomer Heymann.

The director’s personal documentary turns the camera on his own family of five brothers to ask questions about belonging, home, and exile. Their mother, born and raised in Israel, is divorced, and as three of her sons move away with their families, she feels increasingly alone. Tomer, who remains in Israel, is gay and while exploring the issues of family, displacement, and belonging, he explores his sexuality as well. The film frames the director’s quest to understand these issues in terms of Israel’s social and political struggles – including Israeli-Palestinian issues, ultra-Orthodoxy vs secular Israel, and the quest for LGBTQ rights. Using new footage together with 8 mm and 16 mm film shot over a decade, “The Queen Has No Crown” shows is a powerful and intimate portrait of one man, his family, and the changing world around them.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Tomer Heymann.
