Toward a Truly Shared Society in Israel: Promoting Inclusiveness and Combating Racism

with Rawnak Natour, Co-Director of Sikkuy – the Association for the Advancement of Civic Equality and Libby Lenkinski, Vice President for Strategy at the New Israel Fund

What makes an Israeli Arab politician stand for Holocaust Remembrance Day and a right-wing hawk post an online video condemning the bullying of non-Jews? Recent vigilante “price tag” violence and incitement by sitting cabinet members have highlighted increasing extremism towards non-Jews, most obviously Arabs. Meanwhile, tension between Jews and Arabs has been high after months of stabbings and car attacks by individual Palestinians. Beneath the headlines, progressive Israelis are mobilizing to achieve a truly shared society for all Israeli citizens. Libby Lenkinski and Rawnak Natour will explore strategies employed on the ground to give all Israeli citizens – Jewish and non-Jewish – a stake in the fight against racism and in the movement towards a truly inclusive democracy.  Co-Sponsored by the Temple Beth Zion Israel Committee
