While he awaits a visa, he becomes part of a complex and delicate refugee community. But when he meets the mysterious Marie (Paula Beer, “Frantz”), who is waiting for her husband—the very man Georg is impersonating—his plans become less certain. This brilliant and haunting adaptation of Anna Seghers’ 1942 novel by Christian Petzold (“Phoenix”) reimagines this Holocaust-era story in contemporary times.
