Koleinu, invites you to bring joy and warmth to winter with a “green” choral concert, “Under the Carob Tree” featuring music celebrating our natural world, including songs by Naomi Shemer, Shulamit Ran, Chava Alberstein and a gorgeous Israeli setting of text from of the biblical Song of Songs. Temple Emeth’s Cantor Michael McCloskey will lend his lyric tenor voice to the event, and Rabbi Katy Allen of Ma’yan Tikvah, the synagogue without walls of Wayland, MA, will also participate. Koleinu’s director, Carol Marton, and Rabbi Allen have been working together to create a musical event that highlights the powerful connections of Jewish and poetic texts with nature.
The concert will celebrate Tu B’Shevat, New Year for Trees, a holiday that reinforces ecological awareness and several selections in the program will reflect the spirit and joy of this holiday. Koleinu is using this opportunity to address its own carbon footprint: using recycled paper products for the program and reception, and carpooling to rehearsals. Audience members are also encouraged to carpool and they can do so by following the following link: CarpoolWorld
