Real questions about aging—answered by trusted JF&CS experts.
This May, for Older Americans Month, JF&CS is opening a new community conversation about aging. Are you worried about a parent’s safety? Feeling stretched thin as a caregiver? Or navigating aging, health changes, or loneliness yourself?
Ask Edie is a new conversation about aging, caregiving, and later life transitions. Each session opens with a “Dear Edie” letter—drawn from composite, real questions that come into our helplines—and then a panel of JF&CS aging experts offers insight, perspective, and practical next steps. The program concludes with live Q&A, giving participants a chance to ask what’s on their mind.
Session I: Caring for Aging Parents
Caring for aging parents can be overwhelming—especially when siblings disagree, parents resist help, or the signs of decline feel gradual but unmistakable.
In this session, JF&CS experts will discuss:
- When to be concerned—and when to act
- How to start difficult conversations
- Safety, cognition, finances, and caregiving stress
- Where to turn for guidance and support
Session II: Aging with Connection
Aging can bring unexpected changes—loss, health challenges, or isolation—even for people who have always been independent.
This session focuses on aging with connection, dignity, and purpose. JF&CS elder care experts will discuss:
- Coping with loss and life transitions
- Finding social connection and meaningful engagement
- Managing health conditions while staying involved
- Support options that help you remain independent and connected
