Lecture explains the Malta Conferences: A Bridge to Peace in the Middle East

October 25, 2015 Sharon

The Malta Conferences Foundation brings together scientists from 16 Middle East and North African countries, Nobel Laureates and distinguished speakers to address growing threats to the world—including instability and uncertainty in the Middle East, nuclear proliferation, the lack of civil society, water scarcity and global climate change.
Two of the peace initiative’s organizers—Dr. Zafra Margolin Lerman and Dr. Morton Z. Hoffman—will discuss this peace initiative at the annual Vera Marshall Lecture on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton St., Sharon. Admission is free.
The common language of science can help overcome chasms of distrust by building tolerance and understanding. Most of these scientists—from countries including Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Iran, Jordan and Egypt—cannot communicate with one another or meet face-to-face easily because their governments are hostile to one another… except at the biennial Malta Conferences.
Dr. Hoffman is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Boston University and treasurer of the Malta Conferences Foundation. He also is a longtime member of Temple Sinai.
Dr. Lerman, president of the Malta Conference Foundation, received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.
This free lecture is generously sponsored by the Marshall family, in commemoration of the Yahrzeit of Vera Marshall.
