In this course we will explore how Jewish communities of Latin America have responded to violence and crisis throughout its varied history in the region. From annals of the Inquisition in colonial New Spain to subversive journalism produced during the Dirty Wars of the Southern Cone, Jews of Latin America have penned literature that questions the legacy of Jewish history in the context of modern periods of trauma in the Americas.

Me’ah Select is a one-semester, in-depth exploration of a specific theme, text, personality or slice of Jewish history, taught at the college level but without papers and assignments. It is led by outstanding instructors from Hebrew College’s Me’ah Classic faculty.
