Open to men and women.
This methodological class will outline three avenues for reading Tanakh: Hazal’s typological reading, the medievalist (Rashi, Ibn Ezra, Rashbam, Ramban) pshat approach, and the new literary approach. We shall learn much about how to read Tanakh, but also study the famous story of Jacob’s deception of his father.
This will be a “beit midrash” style class. It will include a “chevruta” component in which students will have the opportunity to grapple with the sources on their own or with a partner. It is intended to be accessible to students of all levels.
