Meet artist Sari Carel and hear her vision behind “The Shape of Play,” in conversation with project curator Leah Triplett Harrington.
“The Shape of Play,” a new public art installation commissioned by the Jewish Arts Collaborative and curated and produced by Now + There, invites us to reflect on the connections between play and the universal search for freedom. An engaging multimedia work debuting in Boston’s Waterfront Park in the North End, “The Shape of Play” invites people from across Boston to come, play, question and explore what freedom means now and what it may look like in the future.
The project plants questions around the meaning of play. We don’t want to be prescriptive about those meanings for the people who interact with the piece, from our community partners to the general public. By offering the question “Do you feel free to play?” we’re seeking to use this art installation as a jumping-off point for greater dialogue around play and its implications for freedom.
