Yom Iyun: Celebrating 50 Years of a Reunified Jerusalem Through 3,000 Years of Texts

Together with Jews from all around the world, we celebrate 50 years since the reunification of Jerusalem. This program presents a unique opportunity for participants to join with a spirited group of fellow students and outstanding scholars to study a wide variety of texts related to the Holy City.

Program Schedule:

8:45 a.m.: Registration and Light Refreshments

Elisheva Levi: From Tent to Temple: An Architectural Journey Towards   Jerusalem

10:45 a.m.: Workshops (Choose 1)
– Dr. Yael Jaffe: Innovation of Imitation? The Atmosphere of the Newly Built Second Temple
– Chaya Durani: A Tour of 1920’s Jerusalem Through Shai Agnon’s “Tehillah” (This class will be taught in Hebrew.)
– Kaylee Frager: Jerusalem in My Heart and on My Lips: Jerusalem in our Prayers

Dr. Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz: Maiden and Matronita: The Female Personification of Jerusalem

Elisheva Levi is a licensed architect in the State of NY. She works for the firm Perkins Eastman in NYC and designs schools, hospitals, and public transportation facilities. She has a life-long love of Torah learning and has written, lectured and taught on Tanach subject matter in cities all across the United States, Israel, the former Soviet Union, Europe and Australia. She is a frequent lecturer at YU’s Midreshet Yom Rishon women’s learning program. She is also the Director of American Friends of Bat Melech – a domestic violence shelter for religious women in Israel.

Dr. Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz has a BA in archaeology and anthropology from Cambridge, an MA in prehistory from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD from University College London, for which she wrote a thesis on the religious lives of Orthodox women in contemporary London. She is a Teaching Fellow at London School of Jewish Studies, an Affiliated Lecturer at Cambridge, and has also taught at Oxford, the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, and King’s College London, as well as at Limmud Conference and around the Jewish community. She also edits and translates books for the Littman Library of Jewish Civilization. Lindsey is involved in several interfaith activities, including Scriptural Reasoning, and is currently participating in the Senior Faith Leadership Programme (part of the Cambridge Inter-Faith Programme). True to her archaeological background, she enjoys hobbies related to prehistoric technology, including knitting and spinning!
