Are you confused by documents saying your ancestors were from Austria? It’s likely they came from Galicia, which was in the Austrian Empire before World War I and now is split between parts of Poland and Ukraine. This talk, by Renee Steinig, is geared to those new to Galicia research and covers:

  • Changing borders
  • Marriage and naming traditions
  • Identifying and locating ancestral towns
  • Record-keeping in Galicia
  • Sources for Galicia research

Renee Stern Steinig is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and has been doing genealogical research for 40 years. Her personal research covers at least half a dozen towns in Galicia. She is a director of Gesher Galicia, moderates its discussion group and edits its Family Finder.
