The creation of the modern Jew was not at all a simple process. In “The Creation of the Modern Jew: European Nationalism, Zionism and American Life,” we will explore some of the most significant moments in this process. We will explore literature, selected bits of philosophical and political essays, and even Hollywood movies and musicals in order to trace the complex processes that forged the identities of modern Jews. The instructor is Dr. Jacob Meskin.

This 10-week course will meet weekly on Thursdays from Oct. 24 to Jan. 16 (except for holidays). For financial aid and other questions, contact
