“The Band’s Visit”

September 30, 2015 Boston

The Boston Synagogue Presents…a Downtown Film Festival

“JEWISH CULTURE IN FILM – THE LIGHTER SIDE”

Join us this Fall for a memorable film series, including titles from the National Center for Jewish Film.

Come laugh and smile with us. Experience the lighthearted side of Jewish culture in film from the Yiddish theater, Hollywood and Israel. The Boston Synagogue is screening three evenings of laughter and smiles as we celebrate a selection of film musicals, satire, and comedy followed by spirited discussion and refreshments.

You are invited to join us for the full series. Admission is on us.

October 14: “GOODBYE, COLUMBUS”
The turbulent romance between a poor, Bronx-born librarian and an upper-class Jewish-American princess is brought to life in this touching satire, based on the writings of acclaimed author Philip Roth.

October 28: “MAMELE”
Mamele embraces the entire gamut of interwar Jewish life in Lodz — but the film belongs to Molly Picon who romps undaunted through her dutiful-daughter role keeping the family intact and singing and acting her way through every stage of life.

November 11: “THE BAND’S VISIT”
A band comprised of members of the Egyptian police force head to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts center, only to find themselves lost in the wrong town.
